Is This What Crown Rot Looks Like? Male
Default Is This What Crown Rot Looks Like?

I saw this phal at a market yesterday. I REALLY wanted to take it home, but there was something off putting about the crown. See the pic below. I've never seen crown rot - is this it? The crown was firm, not mushy. There was no apparent odor. The rest of the plant looked healthy as can be. I asked the lady at the market to put it aside for me and said I would have to think it over. What do you guys think?

If this IS crown rot, is there any chance of rehabbing this phal? Or is it a certain death sentence?

Thanks!

-J

Default crown rot

Yes, this is crown rot. A plant can recover from it, but it can take a long. My brother was going to trow one out that has worse crown rot than that, so I took it home. I looked it up and found out that it can take 2 years to recover.

I definitely wouldn't buy the plant. Like Vanda lover said it can recover but it will take a very long time. The plant will never grow another leaf from that crown, but it will eventually put off a basal keiki if the rot doesn't kill the whole plant first. Even if you are lucky, the plant will still take years to bloom again.

Thanks! I owe it all to you guys - I wouldn't even know that "crown rot" was a thing without the OB.
