Anyone know a source in europe for pesticides / disinfectans etc?
Hey,
I have been looking at good alternatives for disinfecting / pesticide / fungicide than the bleach solution i have been using.
Ray recommended me SucraShield, Orthene (acephate), and Merit (imidicloprid).
However i dont know if they are available in europe.
Does someone know an online store where you can buy these kind of supplies?
And while we are at it, does anyone know a source for stuff like clear pots / seedling trays / small seedling pots and those kinds of supplies also ?

Merit = Admire in the the Netherlands, you should find it easily in a garden center or Gamma even. It's made by Bayer, and 'Luizen en witte vlieg' is written on the box.
As for Orthene or the equivalent, I don't know if you'll find any. In France Orthene was taken off the market in 2004, and this may be an EU wide measure.
For the pots and such my local hydroponics store in France sells everything. Maybe it's the same for dutch shops? If you ever order some orchids from Schwerter, you can get pots and such as well while you're at it.
More locally Claessen Orchideeën has a small selection of pots. Claessen Orchideeën
Val, unless Orchid Accessories had a change in policy, they don't ship outside the UK (I wanted to order kln). If you know otherwise, that would be great, i can finally order!

Thanks all, some great sources there, looking forward to hearing about more.
Most of those stores have pots that are still to large, i need some really tiny pots and trays for seedlings just out of flask.

You could always get some small clay thumbpots, don't think you can get smaller than that! For your seedlings out of flask, don't you keep them in a community pot first? Seedling trays should easy to find in garden centers as well. (if you mean trays were you can individually plant a couple dozen plants in)

From their Terms & Conditions ( Orchid Accessories.co.uk ):
"If the destintion is outside the UK then charges will be dearer to reflect the extra costs incurred, the relevent charge will be shown on your shopping cart, before you finally place an order."
I haven't try to order yet. The site was recommended to me just after I had ordered from Ray.
Anyway, I have been very satisfied with Ray and I have no reason to take my business elswhere: he carries Physan 20 (no equivalent in Europe), KLN (supposedly better than SuperThrive), his own Rise&Shine, etc.

They must have changed their policy then, it wasn't like that before.
If you don't mind me asking, how much do you pay for shipping to buy things from Ray? I wanted to buy KLN and MSU fert from him, but I'm afriad that I'm going to pay more in shipping than products. That's why I prefer to shop more locally.

I sent him an email, they do ship outside UK but he said it might be expensive depending on what you buy.
Also, i ran across Bayer Complete Insect Killer, could this be a useful preventative? Does anyone know if insectisides like this harm moss and lichens?

If I remember correctly, I paid about $40 which means about 30 Euro. Probably more than a shipment from within Europe, but not that much. And I got Physan, KLN, Rise&Shine, MSU-type fertilizer, and Tree Tanglefoot (for the orchids that will spend the summer in the garden). I needed Physan desperately and urgently, so the little extra for shipping from US didn't bother me.
BTW, you could buy SuperThrive from Germany: Superthrive Vitamins & Hormones - Großräschener Orchids
