1. What systemic incesticides do we have available in canada?
2.Where can i get them for a place preferably online as local greenhouses dont seem to have them.

I've tried neem oil, soap, cinamon and standard incesticides nothing is working. looking for the strong stuff.

what are you spraying against

Bayer CropScience Canada - Products - Insecticides - Admire

Works against most plant sucking insects. I use it against scaly / wooly aphids. Doesn't work against mites.

Admire works fine against scalies but be carefull I've seen some damage on new growths. Plants did recover afterwards and the scalies died.

For mites Masaï is registered in Europe for hobby use on flowers but not sure about Canada. For mites increasing the humidity will help I sometimes put plants under the show I've never used chemicals against them.

I would never advise to spray or dip all plants. Always start with a few to see the reaction of an ingredient you've never used before. I've also seen differences between species. All chemicals will have some effect on teh plant. Allways follow the guidelines and if you have to chemicals more often change to other active ingredients.

We can buy Merit locally and it is a systemic against scale and mealy bugs. If greenhouses or garden supply centres don't have it, a farm supply might. In our orchid society we have been told that dendrobiums don't like it but it's OK for most other orchids. That is just hearsay, nothing to back it up other than I think someone was basing it on their own experience.

Mites are another dilemma. I don't know of a systemic that we can get here. I think there might be a few that Canada doesn't sell but that are allowed to come across the border from U.S. To Canada. A good gardening store should be able to offer some suggestions.

I think the Merit was only available in a fairly large size but we bought some as a society and then divided it into small affordable jars.

Cyberloach - this is the best thread I've read in weeks! It had never occurred to me what those mites were up to when they were gathering on plants. You have a great sense of humor. Thanks for a good laugh.
