Vanda Chlorosis and pink spots. Please Help

Hi, I have an Ascocenda and an Aranda showing some major problems.. Maybe viral. Could anyone tell me what this could be and how to fix it.. They are in a west facing window, its usually dark and gloomy here in this part of Canada in winter. I supplement the natural light with some regular fluorecent bulbs and a purple grow light. Temperature is 22 degrees celsius (low 70's) and 60% relative humidity. They receive a daily misting and a weekly fertilzing. 30-10-10. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

It's not viral.

How are the roots?

What are you growing the plant in?

Do you have a light meter? Are you able to give a numerical value for the amount of light getting to the plant?

What part of the plant is getting misted?

I am having a similar problem, I sprayed with physan 20 thinking it was a fungi starting because of wet leaves and cooler temps, and shorter days.. It seems to be keeping it in check. Mine are bare root, outside, in two hours of sun.

Yours is most likely a problem with not enough water.

2 solutions:

1. Water more often the way you're growing the plant.

2. Pot it up with medium or large grade bark.

Maybe, but most likely not.

It's either light, which we don't clearly know what's going on in this particular situation. It sounds like too much light, but it could also be too little in reality. Only a numerical reading for the lighting values will be of any value in this case.

Or dehydration due to a number of reasons, particularly if the Vanda is grown bareroot in a basket.

Temperature could be a factor too, but the person mentioned that it was somewhere within range. Although, it's probably better to ask the person to be much more specific...

Such as:

What are the day and night temperatures?

What are the seasonal differences in temperatures?

How long was the plant grown under these conditions?

Only the roots get misted, they aren't looking too good either. No new growth. These plants are growing bare root in a basket. I've only had them for two months and the temps have been about the same. They aren't getting too much light, probably not enough. Should I pot?

Pot up using clear plastic pot and some medium to large grade bark.

Water twice a day until it shows sign of recovery.

Then water when it completely dries out.

The lighting issue, you just have to get yourself a light meter.

Ok, now your post finally showed up 30 minutes later. So all of my phals have this rust coloured stuff on their roots, and the Vandas are starting to get it to. It eventually dries their roots to a twig-like consistency. The Ascocenda has rings on its big aerial root, and it's starting to shrivel. I just don't want the Vandas to get like the phals if I pot.
