Phalaenopsis flower spike root infection
Default Phalaenopsis flower spike root infection

hi all,

i have a couple hundred Phalaenopsis showing symptoms where the root of the "flower spike" seem to be infected or is this some kind of disease ?

has anybody run into a situation as such, i'm trying to find out what the cause of this may be and the best solution to apply to this.

the supporters for the spikes were added when the flower spike had harden some.

thanks.

Is the base of the spike the only place on the plant that these white spots show up?

I have seem something like that before, but I'm afraid to say it was on a Phal which a few months later died of a spreading hard dry black necrosis (which took several months to spread arround the crown and kill it).

I have no idea if the white spotting was at all related to what killed it and there is a good chance it's completely unrelated.

Unfortuantely I also don't know what was the cause of either the spotting or the thing which killed my orchid

Have you tried to wipe it off with alcohol or anything? Does it just come back?

I second Joann's idea, that's a good thing to try.

Just wiping it off is not going to treat the cause of it. Have you changed your culture conditions lately? (humidity, temperature, light, watering frequency...)

I'm not sure what it is. Could be mold from too much humidity/not enough airflow? Maybe you can spray it with fungicide just in case...
