possible Phal spike problem

The spike on one of my phals is turning a funny color. I clipped it just above its 2nd node about 2 months ago and it has been doing very well. Since then it has grown a new leaf and the existing leaves are much more healthy and it is growing a new spike off of the cut node. However, I looked at the spike closely and it is turning a whitish color and it is kind of spreading down the spike. It seems soft at the discolored area....any clue of what it may be? I am all of a sudden having multiple plant problems

It's tough to tell in the picture exactly how bad it is, but it doesn't sound good. If it were my plant, I would cut off the whole spike (with a sterile tool) and get it ready for the next bloom season. Keeping a spike or pushing out an additional one takes energy from the plant. If its health is in question, removing the spike is really the right thing to do. If it's healthy, than it'll bloom again soon anyways. Just my humble opinion. Good luck!

Thats a bummer I had just cut it and it started growing a new sprout. I guess if I must cut it I will...

Nobody's saying you must. I was just saying what I would do if it were my plant. Orchids can be unpredictable and there are rarely absolutes. Also, we learn by experimentation so don't let my advice get in the way of trying something a little different.
