Do you use Dunkin' Donuts or Starbucks? Guess your slugs are teetotalers because it used to be suggested to put out beer for slugs...don't know if it killed them but maybe they were too drunk to eat the orchids!

I have used coffee grounds to turn the potting media slightly acidic.
Works very well for that, but I have never seen it kill anything.... except sleep

When you say coffee grounds, do you mean used or freshly ground coffee?

Update:
I haven't seen any more evidence of damage to the plant. I put the orchid far from my other plants. Can I assume that the slug is gone, or is it just resting while digesting? I haven't tried any of the specific remedies because basically I've been too busy.

He might be lurking around the roots. Snails and slugs find orchid roots to be especially tasty.

I found some small snails among the roots of a few plants recently. I watered the infested plants with some stale brewed coffee. Haven't seen any more signs of snails but they do lay eggs so I plan to retreat periodically. The coffee didn't harm the plants.
