The little white dots are a type of fungus just like little mushrooms developing. There are some residual pieces of sphagnum moss still on the plant.

Which picture do you see the fungi? I looked it over, and can't find it. I can only see the small flakes of sphagnum...

Sorry for being late on this post but I have to agree totally with Pat. I too have had this happen, especially in my terrarium. I find I need to repot spagnum quite often (twice a year) if it gets heavy and rotten. I use Thiomyl systemic fungicide as a deterent for these conditions. I see NO critters like mealies or fungus spores or anything other than signs of rotten spagnum. Sorry to disagree with those thinking otherwise.

Tin, if this were mine, I would not treat like Pat does (that will definitely cure the problem but seems like swatting a fly with a bazooka). I would cut off the rot (the roots DO NOT look healthy to me, sorry!) Treat with your favorite sterile agent - some like cinamon, others charcoal, I like Thiomyl. Then let dry a couple days (rather than water, why not try the spag n bag?) Then when the cuts look OK, I'd repot mine in fresh spagnum (loose) that has been soaked in KLN rooting compound. I would NOT put back into same environment until it proved to me it was worthy Good luck, whatever avenue you choose.

Look at last picture there are hundreds of tiny white dots of varying size. Those would be the mold/fungi developing and they are probably secondary to original problem that caused pseudobulb to rot in first place. It is an ideal situation for this type of thing to develop.

Thanks guys. Not sure about the white dots. Looked like a fungus to me, but it was growing mostly on the sphag so I was not concerned. I must have kept this one too wet. I've yet to master the art of keeping orchids
Its been what, more than a week now since I took it out. The plant seems to have healed its wound, and the sulfur seems to have done a great job. I'm going to cut off all those old dry as bone roots. I don't want to pot it up because I want to use this in a vivarium which I have yet to build. not sure where to put this guy for now. Thanks all for the advice!

What is Thiomyl and where do you buy it? I have been using Bayer for insects. Is it a liquid or a powder?
