White spider web-like moldnor fungus keeps returning on clowesia rebecca northen
Unfortunately I cannot get pictures. I have clow. Rebecca northen which had some sort of rot hit it last year. Noe this year, after we got a lot of rain, it got something that looked like what my lycaste had. I posted with pics about the lycaste and followed advice to treat with rubbing alcohol and it has been fine. It was said to be biosduval scale (sorry about spelling). So I treated this plant the same way and it seemed to work then a few days later it was back and the newest mature bulb had some rot. I cut it out with sterilized tools and applied cinnamon. Now two days later this stuff that looks like a very thickly woven spider web is appearing out of the cut spot on the bulb. Any ideas are much appreciated.

I'm by no means an expert, but whenever I see spiderweb-like threads on any plant, I automatically look for spider mites. Unfortunately, they're just about impossible to get rid of for me, so they usually become chronic. But look up spider mites and maybe try spraying weekly with Neem oil solution. Also, post pics if you can. Good luck!!

It doesn't appear to be spider mites based on my previous experiences with them. I was thinking more along the lines of a fungus or mold but I could be wrong. I might just spray it with physan 20 and malathion and hope for the best.

in the future try floramite. It's a newer systematic so you shouldn't have issues with resistance, like with Avid, and one spray treats the plant for over a month.
Commercially it's only available by the quart and runs close to 300 dollars, but there are secondary sellers on ebay that sell enough to treat a large collection 2-3 times for about 20 dollars (really highly concentrated stuff)

LISTERINE dear
Spray the regular brown Listerine at the spot and don't rinse it. Seal the open area with cinnamon again and you should be good to go

If that is mold i would use Lysol. Spray over the plant pot and soil. I know that people also use bleach but the smell in my opinion is awful.

Thank you Brother. However, I only have problems with spider mites (and scale) on my outdoor plants, which are all edibles. I keep all my beautiful orchids indoors to protect them. I use the Neem because it's safe for use on plants you intend to eat.

I am not able to get Avid or Floramite in the BBS near me and can't afford to order online. Anything similar on the general market?

Does anyone have any ideas about funguses or molds like this? I am sure it is not spider mites or scale. I had to remove a pbulb last night that was mushy at the base although the top looked fine. There was also more fungus growth where I had previously scraped it out. My friend who knows a lot about biology said it is mycelium which is the precursor to fungus.
Susanne/cb977, I am going to give the listerine when I get home Monday on it if there is anything that is visible. I have used it in the past but have been out for awhile and I didn't even think of it. I used some alcohol and cleaned off the affected areas and then reapplied cinnamon.
I really want to save this plant. I love it and I know they aren't easy to come by. If it ever makes it through a whole growing season and I can divide it, I am happy to share with you. I know you like this one a lot too.

Good luck with the listerine Jenn I wish I knew more. Hopefully that will be the cure. Good luck.
