Susanne/cb977, I am going to give the listerine when I get home Monday on it if there is anything that is visible. I have used it in the past but have been out for awhile and I didn't even think of it. I used some alcohol and cleaned off the affected areas and then reapplied cinnamon.
I really want to save this plant. I love it and I know they aren't easy to come by. If it ever makes it through a whole growing season and I can divide it, I am happy to share with you. I know you like this one a lot too.

Aww Jenn...that is SO sweet of you! I really do absolutely LOVE this one...if and when you divide it I'd be honored to have a little piece of it.
I think the Listerine will do the trick. It's one of two sprayers that are always available on my work bench...Listerine in one and a 50/50 mix of alcohol and 409 cleaner in another. In my orchid room, they are absolute necessities.
and let us know how it comes along.

Thanks swamper and susanne. I have been away from the babies for three days so I hope it hasn't gotten worse in my absence. For some reason this plant has been difficult the last two years. Maybe it will snap out of it or I will figure out the trick!

I use it for pests...mealies and scale.
The alcohol breaks down the shell and the 409 smothers the pest.
I've tried it with other "soaps" but it's not the same...for some reason, it has to be 409
Spray it and either rinse or wipe it away. This works for me because I'm very aware of what's going on with the chids...for somebody looking to spray something and let it be, this probably isn't going to be the solution.

How long after spraying do you wipe or rinse? Do you let it sit a while?

I wondering what you use the alcohol and 409 for also. I am going to have to give that a try. It helps knowing what other outdoor growers in Florida use.

It's instant!
Try it next time you see scale on one of your chids...you'll be amazed
I really try to avoid using any kind of major chemicals with my pups around...and these aren't "stinky" :
