Besides the damage, your plant gives me the general impression of being a bit dehydrated. If roots are healthy, watering may not quite be sufficient.

The damage (before Phyton) could be a nutrient deficiency... calcium, magnesium, others. What is your fertilizer program and what is the pH of your water and the fertilizer solution?

Finally, given the damage to the leaves, it isn't too surprising that any chemical that might normally be safe could cause additional damage.

It looks like I have the same problem. I think it is something bacterial. It was not too critical in my collection so I didnt research. However after I treated every orchid with Phyton the "rust" have stopped. I will keep using Phyton as it looks like it works!

Thanks for the reply.

I've never tested the ph of my water unfortunately. I just use Toronto tap water, which is just piped in from lake Ontario - some hardness, but nothing too bad. For fertilizer I use Dyna-grow Liquid Grow 7-9-5.

The plant is in s/h, so there is always a small reservoir of weak fertilizer solution available to the plant (about 1/4 the amount indicated on the label).

What made you think bacterial? Anything bacterial that I've ever had has always fairly rapidly turned things mushy and smelly. I assumed this was something fungal because it progresses fairly slowly by comparison.

I've treated twice with Phyoton now....there isn't a lot left that I can do. Unless there are other suggestions (I'm looking into other fungicides), I'll just have to wait and see if it recovers. So far there isn't any sign of the infection on the newest growth.
