Detecting plants is what they are born to do. You might take advantage of this by putting out some other non-orchid as food (fruit or vegetable scraps). Hopefully they will be more attracted to the food scraps and leave your orchids alone.

yummy! those look like the ones eaten in France!
anyways back to the subject - try putting a bowl of beer - snails apparently like the smell of beer and they will then drown in trying to get in...

nenella ,
I have seen it too. Some slugs for sale on baskets.
You too in France . Do you know some who have tasted them? Yes these snails grow fast and eaten by some birds and
crocodiles.

I had snails one year. They preferred the Phals. They had big appetites and each morning I found large holes in the leaves on my Phals. I used a bait called Sluggo and it took care of them within a few days.

Sluggo is good if you can get it where you live. However, my best solution to the snail problem was to go out to the orchid table about 10:30 PM with a flashlight and pick them off the plants and dispose of them with a good stomp. This took several days to accomplish. It was after that that I used Suggo and a couple slices of potato. I haven't seen a snail or evidence of their presence lately but I really need to check again as I sincerely doubt I have eliminated every snail that exists.
