You guys don't crush up Viagra and add it to the watering can? Too funny swamper.
I really appreciate all of the advice - unfortunately repotting or putting in new soil would be a complete nightmare. There's Australian vines with beautiful white and purple flowers and creeping moss as ground cover - replacing the soil would kill those guys.
I'm going to mix up a batch of Ray's Cinnamon alcohol and see if it helps at all. Even if it just kills off the mushrooms, that would be okay.
I'm way too creeped out to try and eat them - nothing that color can possibly be good for you.
I'll let you all know how it goes.

Camille is correct on the ID. I have those growing in one of my pots along with Salvia coccinea. Obviously and exependable plant, but I just sit back and enjoy the show. The mycellia are there, but the shrooms only last a day or so. I agree with Camille, this should not harm your orchids, just increase the visual delights. The terrarium forum and dart frog forum people would love to get this growing in their tanks. Just another "plant" to enjoy. I know I can't wait for mine to come back. Oh, I did find that when I stopped watering the pot, the shrooms died.
And a good rule of thumb, if its pretty, don't eat it. If its beautiful, don't touch it.

Never a good idea to try eating "found" mushrooms ...
I am in the 'finds it kind of pretty' camp - tho I can see if there is a large colony of them might be a bit much. I sometimes find mushrooms in potted plants, and even in crevices in the wood used for mounts ... None as pretty as yours tho ...

I had, a few weeks ago, exactly the same mushroom in a cymbidium pot and I like it but when I first see it I was so surprized... At that moment I didn't know is harmless for orchids and I extracted it. I kept a picture of this in my computer. It looks very nice and interesting. But colorful and nice means poison...

Jrod's Magic Mushroom
He's a handsome little fun-guy,
When he gets excited..oh my!,
He's a weiny weiner when he starts,
But in no time he has swollen parts!
His yellow compliments the purple vine,
His shape...well it's mighty fine!
But poor soul...alas....oh gee!
40 feet he'll never be!
Tee hee

Marion - I'm totally printing this out and tacking it on to the outside of the terrarium. You've made my day.
Tindomul - a good rule of thumb for sure that is, perhaps, as applicable to mushrooms as it is to other aspects of life?
I've got another little shroom starting out and I've decided just to let it run its course based on the input from this thread. Thanks all!

Jrod's Magic Mushroom Part 2
The shroom is no longer alone,
He has a mate all his own!
Popping up by his side,
Makes his excitement hard to hide!
Now we have this happy two,
Lots of littlies will ensue!
A host of yellow weiners tots,
And no room for Jrod's orchid pots!
Giggle

Too true! Too true!
Not only great orchidly advice and wisdom - but no in verse!
I think that the bar has just been raised.
Love it!
