Smile My Brsdm. guilded Urchin needs help!

Hello! My husband bought a Brsdm. guilded urchin for Mother's day. It is sooo beautiful, but within the last two days, the blooms closest to the beginning of the spike are turning brown and dieing! When the beauty arrived it had 3 blooms at the end that were just ready to pop...and have! The plant shoots are nice and green, but there are quite a few older shoots (dark green), and it looks like quite a few older dead shoots were cut away as well...there is also some green moss growing near the base of the orchid....should I repot or????? It's so beautiful, I want to do what's right??
thanks!!!!!

Hi! Welcome to OB!
It's possible the older blooms were ready to die - or possibly did so from a change in environment. It's hard to say what could be wrong - if anything - without a picture.

Help for posting pix http://www.orchidboard.com/community...chidboard.html

Brsdm is an abbreviation for Brassidium - an Oncidium alliance inter-generic hybrid of Brassia and Oncidium. Allow the potting media to just approach dry in between waterings.

I agree with whiterabbit it is hard to say with no picture ...it may well be it is just fine and blooms were ready to go already or as hse said the change in enviromet caused them to drop early ....such things are very common and unless you see the plant deteroriating it is not a cause for worry.

it is always good to look at roots on a new plant when you get it and look closly at the potting medium and make sure it is not breaking down.BUt make sure of the speficics recommended for you particular plant first and check to see if it is important for new roots to be starting to grow or not when repotting is done as some do not like being disturbed untill new root growth is commencing.

Thanks John (JB)!
I will check the roots...there are quite a bit of small stones on top, I will have to look closer, to see the potting mix and for new growth...also the pot it is in has green mold?..around the bottom outside? Did we get an older plant do you think?? I am still going to try to post a photo tomorrow a.m.
thanks again!

Smile thanks again-

Hello again. I checked with the people that we purchased the orchid from, and they said that it was in fact an older plant, and that it first spiked in January. So it's probably at the end of it's bloom?? The bulbs look healthy and green so I will just keep an eye on it for now. Since the last post, it has dropped almost all its blooms except at the very end of the spike. Sorry about the photos, but my camera's battery is DOA...
thanks again for your advice..that's it for now:
