Black/Brown Dots on Phal Violacea Leaves... Male
Default Black/Brown Dots on Phal violacea Leaves...

Should I be worried? The leaves are not infested with them, just a few of these minute, raised black/brown dots.

I repotted the violacea yesterday, and took a good look at the roots. There was one long, nice root with many others dessicated. However, there were two new root growths coming out of the crown. I cut the dessicated ones off.

Maybe this plant is recovering from something or maybe it has something? Maybe I am simply paranoid....

Black "Dots"...

Another macro shot of the black dots...

Here is the plant...near blooming size Phal violacea

What say you?

Can you wipe them off with alcohol and a q-tip?

Good suggestion! My Dend. had some black spot which seemed to come away easily using a small piece of damp natural sponge.

If you try this, what ever you use just don't force the spot. If it surface only it should come away with relative ease.
If it's not coming away easily, what ever it is may be "in the Leaf" so to speak and may be a fungal infection of some kind (hope not) and you may require another method of dealing with it, such as dabbing the spots with cinnamon.

Other than that, the only other thing I cold think of is a kind of burn spots. Where light through a water spot has damaged the leaf. But I truly doubt this.

Also check the underside of the leaf. Make sure it's not going through to the other side.

I'm sure some one else will know more
And best of luck! Hoping this is nothing too serous.

If it doen't wipe off with alcohol, then it's probably a scar from some sort of mechanical damage - like a bug bite. I don't like any kind of spots on my leaves, but I have a couple that have these same "bumps" and it hasn't caused problems.
