Virus on Cymbidium and Dendrobium?
Both the Cymbidium and Dendrobium had these markings when they were given to me. The Cymbidium really worries me, the markings have become worse this season, and is noticeable on the new growth as well. I have removed it from my shadehouse, it is now under trees. If it is a virus, can it spread to other garden plants? Should I rather destroy it? The new leaves on the Dendrobium are coming out healthy. What could the lighter colouring be? Sorry the pics were taking too long to download. Please check them out in my album on gallery page.

You can order test kits online.
In the mean time, I'd keep them quarantined. I don't know if they can pass to other garden plants.

I'd say the cymbidium needs to be destroyed. Not sure about the den.

I don't know a lot about viruses and their symptoms, but what I see, seems could be caused by other factors.
Black spotting does occur for other reasons.
And the cym foliage looks like it could have been from sucking insects ? I really don't know but don't want you to panic and get rid of your plants, so am responding and bumping to hopefully get you some more responses ...

I agree with WhiteRabbit, and hopefully someone with more experience with virus will chime in soon.

Here's a pdf by Sue Bottom that's a pretty good online reference for pests, diseases, and viruses- and their treatment.

Izzie, thanks for the link. I bookmarked it and I'm sure I will refer back to it several times.

No problem! It was shown to me when I first started, and has saved me a lot of grief. Sue B. really did her homework!
I love that it goes through the effectiveness of the different chemicals/treatments on the market- that's been really helpful.
