Anytime I see sap on the underside of leaves I always double check for scale, or other insects that are leaving the sticky, shiny stuff behind. I clean off with insecticidal soap solution and keep a close eye on it just in case. I spray every 7 days for at least three time. If it is just 'sap' it won't hurt it but if it is some bug, it should get the life cycle as well as the exhisting bugs. I also put it in an area away from close contact with other plants so if it is a bug it will not spread as easily. Check your other plants to see if it is present as well.
