I second that. I have a few Pinguiculas. I think the bright green leaves attract the gnats. also they make easily "bably" plantlets that grow fast. I think the mexican Pinguiculas with longer leaves work better as gnat-traps than those with shorter rounded leaves. Best are the Ping moctezumae and the Ping Aphrodite in my case. there are many species and hybrids with different leaves. I would get one that requires no dormancy.

Also what works well is the easiest growing Drosera, D. capensis.

Anyway if someone wants to make a trade I have some extra small Pinguiculas that grow fast and could bloom within 6 months. no more flying gnats only one or 2 once in a while

I am not usually not replying to thank the contributors but sorry I was busy.

Thank you all for your replies. If the fungus gnats are not especially harmful to the plants then I don't have a problem (unless they become a large cloud flying around LOL). In fact I love insects and I love to have insects close to where I live (I enjoy to have any possible life around me).

edit: I haves seen a Pinguicula plant at a Garden center and I was amazed, maybe I will go and have one.
Here are two photos that I've shot:

Sometimes it is better to not thank if it is not meaningful to the conversation... actually i find annoying receiving an email notification to a new post and open a new tab or page on my web browser to just read something "it is stunning!" [i actually would abolish the term "stunning" for describing flowers... orchids would hurt more than a taser gun] or "thank you". WOuld be OK if i could read the text of the new post in the email notification so it would be just a one step process.

Anyway I have a few Pinguiculas... I find the ones with oblong / long leaves work better to attract and trap gnats. P. moctezumae and P Aphrodite.

Anyway I would get that. You can make new plants by removing a healthy leaf all the way at the base and put it pressed on top of some peat moss in a pot sitting in a saucer with 1 inch of distilled or rain water.

Most important make sure that the medium [peat moss + perlite] contains absolutely no fertilizer or the plant will grow slowly and then die.

salts/ fertilizer / tap water are a NO NO

Now, how I cannot thank you for that info! And yes, I know that you will get the notification in your email but I owe to thank you for your contribution furthermore.

I will "visit" again that Garden Center LOL...
Here in Netherlands we have lots of rain, I have peat... so... I should not be waiting too much

well thanks is ok -
I just wish follow ups could be shown in the body of the email notification like it happens in the Facebook message notifications.
So I would click the link only if i want to reply or if it is a long follow up or if I want to look at teh images...
just the 2 step process of clicking on a link in the email application going to a new webpage just to read "thank you + some smileys" or "it is stunning" [actually i ould abolish that term. there are so many "stunning" orchids that they sound more dangerous than a taser gun!].

A one step process would be better...

Wll we are here to share information more than thank you messages. I like to read as many threads as I can... So I use a RSS reader but well I just like to read what is pertinent to information not just thank you notes!

But it is not about being not thankful, just wish the forums software would allow an abstract of the reply in the email notification

Yes, I agree. It would be much more easier like this and less time consuming for all.

I wonder if there are settings on the forums software that allows that... who is in charge of this?
there are forums where i get the text in the email notification and i only go to the webpage to reply or read a long response

Marty is the one who can change settings in the software. I can see the point of this and I will ask Marty if any settings exist. Personally I have actually disabled email updates for subscriptions, When I come here I just click on the 'UserCP' option first which shows which of my subscriptions have been updated. I come here as regularly as I can anyway and an email is not going to make me have more time to come back sooner.

still you could avaoid clicking on a link just to read thank you / you are welcome.

I really enjoy this forum, I just think the useability could be improved with such a setting. less steps to read messages.

I like email updates so I do not miss any reply to threads I am following.
