The crown should be facing the light source (your window).
The stakes were put in because the plant after being dropped was struggling to stay in the pot. after repotting the plant yesterday the stakes are not being used.

I myself would clean it up and repot it with some of them in the new medium and some still out to be misted.

This plant is a survivor and you will save it!!!
He's right too.

That may be the case for this particular plant in your particular instance.

But that's not what I'm talking about. They will lean if you're able to grow it long enough.

Could you please explain this?

Keiki: means baby in the native Hawaiian language.

As in your Phalaenopsis has baby Phals growing everywhere.

Some of them appear to be able to plant out on their own.

Just to reassure thie plant is not a goner... I had a Phal that I got from my parents that only had 3 roots above the medium left. I used these in the medium when I repotted it. Now, 15 months later it has filled a 12 cm pot with roots, grown 3 new huge leafs and is flowering from a spike with 17 buds.

I kept the plant a bit drier than I normally would do when I 're-started' it from the 3 roots lefts, as indeed these are used to a drier environment than roots that use to grow in a medium.

You have a nice plant!

Nicole

I know this is pure ignorance but how can I identify what parts are the Keikis. I see the two leaves growing in an awkward direction, but where else?

If they look like separate plants, those are keikis.

So far I see one on the top and one on the bottom according to your posted pic. Could be a couple more in the back, not sure.

It's not ignorance, it's not knowing. Ignorance is when you know or should know better but you ignore the information. You didn't know the information ahead of time, so there's nothing to ignore, you just weren't aware or didn't know. This is not mainstream stuff we're talking about. Not everybody knows this information and not everybody knows about orchids.

See, isn't that cool! You're not ignorant.

This whole experiance has turned from fear to excitement, you guys are awesome. The orchid that you see was an experimental Hybrid Phalaenopsis from my local State university, I am so glad there is so much hope for it.
