owwwhh, the black rot, it could spread out rapidly, so....
cut the black parts off, then give it a physan dip, or two. If you have no physan, use peroxide or any germs killer, then add an anti-fungal spray, place it down in some airy, light and cool place.... let it rest till no more blacks appears, to keep it hydrated, gives some light water spray each morning. if the black still appears, pull it out of its pot, clean the roots, and do the above. After it is recovered, repot using new and clean materials. Hope your cattleya survived

I have a cattleya I have the same problem with...and no others. Every time it forms a new p-bulb and just as the leaves are starting to form I get the black rot stuff on it. I thought maybe it was because of water from my misting system so I moved it to where it wouldn't get wet, but the third new p-bulb it's formed since I've had it had the same problem....the last two I was able to save the leaves on, but they are pretty ugly looking with the black spots. I don't understand why it's happening and why it's just on the one 'chid and none of the others. I've had it for about a year and the previous growths from before when I bought it look normal. Can anyone help us as to why this is happening?

re-current blackspots?? i dont know, maybe it got some symptomless virus that weakens the plants, so secondary infection could attack easily, especially to the tender new growth. Or maybe, the first infection hadnt been eradicated completly, its lurking there, waiting the right time to attack , so i think you have to re-sanitize it and re-pot it with fresh material, and watch out the result. If the black still appears, time for a virus test eh???but i do hope it is not...
Goodluck with our catt (my Greenwich too got soft rot so it got a major surgery eh repotting)

I recently had that problem on one of my catts. I sprayed it with a mixture of rubbing alcohol and cinemon. It wokred perfectly.

This is from firstrays.com: Put 2 tablespoons (30 ml) of cinnamon powder in a pint (500 ml) of isopropyl rubbing alcohol. Shake well and let stand overnight. Filter the solution to remove the sediment (coffee filters work well), and use the brown liquid as a spray.
