Dendrobium soft cane - yellow leaf and black spots
Default Dendrobium soft cane - yellow leaf and black spots

Hi all

Have had this dendrobium several months and almost flowering. Seems to be ok but slightly wrinkled, a yellowing leaf and black spots.

Any idea what might be wrong (diseases?)or is it ok? The flowers are taking ages to open..is this usual?

Probably watered too much but there is sign of a new growth (root, bulb not sure).

All help appreciated..

Cheers

John

The only way to know if the roots are okay is to take it out of the pot and see what's going on down there.

Other than not knowing what's going on with the roots, there's nothing wrong with this plant.

The yellow leaf is an older one. The dry sheaths are normal and formed when the growths were still immature and putting out immature leafs. As the cane started developing and swelled up. The immature leaves begin to fall off and the remaining portion dries up and becomes the dry sheath. Occasionally the dry sheath will develop dark spotting because of fungus. But it's usually (not always) harmless. In your case, it's not a big deal.

If you like, you can remove as much of the dry sheaths as possible and nothing bad would happen to your plant.

Thanks for that.

I will keep an eye on.

How long should the flowers take to open from this stage? Will it need a few warm days to do it?

Cheers

I would continue what you're doing.

If what you've done has gotten it to bloom, then continue doing it.

The blooms will take a while. The spurs are still developing.

I'll guess, maybe in about another 2 weeks.
