Sick Phals

Hello,
I have some phal seedlings that are getting some horrible spotting on them.
I've had them for over a year now. They've been in the same place in my chid hotel that whole time. Out of direct sun of course.
A couple of weeks ago I noticed changes coming. These spots started.
I've separated them. Treated them with Physan.

I don't know what Caused this?
Nor how to stop it?
Or what it's called?

Any advice Please?

Sorry I can't helpJkelee But I think you did the right thing in separating them from the others & dousing with Pysan.
My only close encounter to a problem similar to yours is :

I have a Phal 'mini mark' which this sort of thing happened too; it had 8 leaves, had flowered and all of a sudden most of the leaves turned yellow. started in patches - similar to yours. I did the same- doused in P. it's grown a new leaf whose tip was already visible when the 'yellow period' started
It now has 3 leaves remaining & has always had abundant & very good roots.....
I'm waiting to see what happens. By the way like yours, mine was/has never been moved from it's place..and none of the others near it got this 'symptom'.. Good Luck!

Have you experienced a sharp drop in temperature in the last month? Perhaps this doesn't happen in Florida - LOL - but it looks like cold damage to me.

No drop in temps at all.

In the first picture I see a tiny dot in the center of the yellow looks like something has punctured the leaf . What are they potted in? if moss is it fairly new? I have found old moss causes almost a toxic reaction . These are just ideas . Sorry for the trouble .. Gin

They are in Lava rock and moss.

Alot of my Phals are Now getting these horrible yellow spotting going on!

Anyone out here know why this is happening??

Jackie I was just looking at your thread again and wishing I had some answers. I know this has to be killing you.

I went to one of my Chid books for reference. The only photos resembling your leaves had damage due to temperature extremes. We had a chilly winter but you mentioned the condition happened recently so I think we can rule the temperature thing out.

Remember when Central Florida had a week of consistent evening/middle of the night rainfall a few weeks ago? All that moisture might have set the stage for a viral or bacterial infection. My sheltered plants growing in sphag mixes stayed moist that week despite me not watering them. Does your chid hotel permit rainfall to reach your plants?

If you don't see bugs then we've ruled that out too.

Is it possible that you have a build-up of fertilizer salts in the lava rock?

I'm sorry I don't have a definite answer, but I would suspect your problem is related to that week of steady rainfall. I'm not familiar on how to treat viruses and/or bacterial infections. You've probably already done a Physan treatment but we both know it's not a cure all. If the plants were mine I'd give them a Physan and systemic treatment, remove them from excessive humidity, and ocassionally mist their roots. Then I would gradually introduce a little superthrive and fish emulsion fertilizer. This will probably be a slow recovery and at best it's likely you'll loose your leaves. If your patient and nurturing you might get some basal keikis in a few weeks...or not. I'm going with my gut instincts here. Wishing you the best of luck.
