Unidentified Bugs a Problem? Female
Default Unidentified Bugs a Problem?

I have some unidentified bugs on my phalaenopsis orchids they are extremely tiny, have two antenna, and no wings that I can see. The size is about that of a sharpened pencil tip and they look something like this picture with two body sections. The color is this color ranging to a darker brown or a black. If they're not bad for the plant or my other plants then I'm fine with them being there but if they're not then how do I get rid of them?

Thank You!

Based on the description you make, it sounds a lot like thrips. I'm not quite sure what you mean by the size description. If it's thrips, they are only a few millimeters long. What parts of the plant are you seeing them on? Thrips love to feed on pollen so they usually congregate in blooms. The rest of the time they feed on the leaves. Larvae are smaller and are yellow/white. Symptoms of feeding damage is silvery markings on the blooms and leaves. If it's thrips, the only sure way of dealing with them is using a systemic insecticide. Thrips love to hide, and contact insecticides just wouldn't get to them.

Do they look like this? I took this photo using a binocular, so it's much much bigger!

Alrighty, the bugs don't look exactly like that picture but either way I'll pick up some systemic insecticide and give them a treatment.

Thanks for the help!
