Encyclia sick? Male

I went out and looked at 100 of Psh cochleatum today. Every one has flatten pseudobulbs.

My comments are based on the original photo looking like round Encyclia bulbs elongated by a cross with a Cattleya.

To be totally fair I considered the way the cochleatum looked and realized I could take a photo that looks like the ones posted here.

cory1977 - if your pbulbs are round then it is not cochleatum but if they are flattened then it could be.

Also this is blooming season for this plant and about 30 were in bloom today. If it is cochleatum you will know soon.

Default Flowering!

Thanks, everyone!

I am not quite sure where to post the pic of octopussy giving flowers. So I decide to use the original hread. It gave flowers 2 month ago, then experienced a few accidents: my cat threw the wole pot on the floor and destroied one stem; then I found some bugs that produce white silky staff one night. I cut all the stems that night, and repotted it. The pics were taken after the cat accident.

BTW, the pics don't give a clear view of the bulb. It's pretty flat though.

Based on the flowers there is no doubt whatsoever that your plant is Prosthechea cochleata or one of its look-alike hybrids. In the past Prosthechea had been classified as Epidendrum, Encyclia or Anacheilium. Your plant appears to be healthy but the symptoms could be the result of drying out too much once in a while at sensitive times in the growth cycle. Try to keep it a little more evenly moist when it is in active growth.

Cory, This sounds quite strong to me. More usual is 1/2 tsp per gallon. I fertilize at this strength every second week in summer and every third week in winter.
