Phal. sunburn or infection?
Default Phal. sunburn or infection?

I have a Phal. that is developing some problems. I've identified mealybugs on the blooms; I've removed them by hand, swabbed with alcohol, and am watching closely. I plan to repot soon (any advice about that is also very welcome!) to eliminate any in the medium.

I have a leaf with a necrotic spot as well. I thought at first that it was sunburn, but now I see that there are some other spots on the underside of the leaf that make me wonder if it's an infection of some kind. Any advice is very welcome!

Cheers,
Literata

PS - sorry for posting this as such a newbie, but I'm worried about saving my plant

Here's a bloom, for identification purposes:

it just looks like sunburn to me. but its not bad yet. phals should have indirect sunlight. like through a shear curtain.

what kind of potting medium is it in. and what kind of potting medium are you planning to put it in. phals do good in semi-hydro, bark, and, this might seem pretty radical, but also in water culture. to read more about water culture read this here http://www.rv-orchidworks.com/orchid...-orchid-water- culture.html -

Thanks for the replies! I was worried about the solid white bumpy spots on the underside of the damaged leaf, but they're definitely not bugs of any kind, so if it's just sunburn, they won't worry me.

Looks like it's in a bark mixture that's broken down pretty well by now. I thought I would look for a medium-sized bark mixture to repot in.

you should definately repot. WHAT EVER YOU DO, DO NOT GET YOUR MEDIUM FROM WALMART LOWES, HOME DEPOT, KMART, OR A GARDEN CENTER. you must get it from a nursery specializing in orchids, or get it from an online source, such as oakhillgardens.com
