Is it rot?? *scratches head* - Orchid Board

I bought two Blc. cuttings from the same vendor at a show last year, and i noticed the same hardened black patch on the two cuttings after a while. I have never seen this on any of my other plants.

The blackened part is hard, not mushy or smelly or anything! Does anyone have any idea what it could be?

Hey cupcake,
The first picture where the pseudobulbs are completely red/purple looks like you blasted them with a LOT of sun, so it seems thats their tan.

The second looks like tissue dying off- I dont know for sure if its rot or not, I had something similar with one of my cattleya leaves- HARD strong leaves with blackening sunken tissue. Could be rot, I'd wait and see what others have to say. I cut off the leaves with the blackening I dont know tash... :S

I would agree that the first pic is pseudobulbs have rot.
The second picture look like the tissue has burn, rot will also start off looking that way.

I would cut these off to make sure it didn't further its way to the other parts of the plant.
Up the air circulation around the plant.

Does look like some sort of rot. Rot doesn't need to be mushy, there are different types of baceria. But I'm under the impression that if you cut off the infected bulbs, you've got no plants left!

Do the dark spots look like they've been spreading? You can try treating them. The spots won't go away, but you'll stop whatever it is that's attacking the plants! And keep them far far away from the other orchids.

The black area has not spread at all, its very solid and the rest of the bulb and the leaves are totally healthy.
I dunno what to do

I haven't any idea what the cause might be .. But agree with what Camille has said to you.
Before taking the extreme action of cutting off, treat with something like Physan and keep on watching closely if the black stops or spreads even more. Keep us posted.
