vanda turning yellow, drying

It's me again, sorry. One of my friend has trouble with both of her vandas. The first one has brown rotting on the flower spike. Actually the whole flower spike is rotting while the flowers are ok I guess it's fungus or something like that but i ask your opinion to be sure. The second is just simply getting drier and yellower every day. The "old" leaves fall off, though it is a completely young plant. So we think it's not a normal function and that i sould ask if someone came across a case like that. What can it be? The plants are treated well, like they should be, high humidity, fresh but not cold air and bright shaded/sunny window... We don't know that went wrong with them .

I don't know what to tell you here. The first picture look likes a very healthy plant except the spkie and flower which look old and withered and well normal?

The second one looks like it may have gone thru a long period of neglect, yet you say it's young. So when your friend bought it, it wan't like this?

Im trying to figure out where it's been in terms of care so I can have a better idea of what to suggest. Maybe someone with more experience can help.
I have seen similar vandas like your second one but they were given to me like that to try and rescue them....

In the first picture, the spike is just passing. Its unfortunate, but it has to go sometime

In the second picture, you're just losing some older leaves. As young plants grow, they throw new leaves on top and the bottom ones die somtimes. You can probably remove them if you want, but they will eventually come off on their own.

I agre with Becky, apart from the spike dying which is normal after a time, the bottom leaves going yellow and dying is normal. Cut them off. The is again normal if the plant isn't growing in optimal condition.

If the roots turn green when watered, I wouldn't worry about it. It just need time to aclimate.

To me, thats one normal looking Vanda..... Pretty healthy too. As everyone has said, the bottom leaves tend to leave the plant from time to time...... You should see some of the unsaleable Vandas that i have.... Some of them look more like trees with a high trunk.

The roots do look a little on the dry side though..... I'd dunk it in a bucket of water for about ten minutes.

Vandas are like mermaids. They like the sun in the face, the wind in their hair and gentle water lapping their fins. Ideally, this translates to 11 hours of light per day with temps 60 to 80. Air movement around the whole plant, at all times. Humidity in the 60 - 80% RH range ... and drenchings (at least once a day in the morning) on sunny days.
We've been successful with the vandae in our New Hampshire greenhouse.

I water my Vandas twice a day, before and after work....Usually this equates to me watering after dark for at least an hour!! I have no rot problems as the heat tends to dry everything out and there is total air movement all day and night.

Thank you for the opinions about the vandas. I'm not sure if i wrote it understandably enough, but the two pics show 2 different vandas. Both have been at my friend's for a half year, so i guess it had time to get used to the conditions there. So the second one doesn't like there and maybe it's not a normal function that it's drying? I'll tell her to give more water to the plant and controll it more often. What else can i tell her besides waiting?
