Pseudo. browning, bottom up?????

I have a division of a Bc Eagle Supremacy and all of a sudden it started to brown from the bottom up. Two pseudobulbs are affected now. Notice that there is a new growth to the right of the infected pseudo. What's the problem? Bacteria or fungus? How do I treat? Do I cut them out? Thought I would post here before going to the cat. alliance. Thanks! OOOOps for the pic.

It could be bacterial or it could be rot, hard to tell. I had a Phal turn black on it's crown, overnight (bacterial) and a catt that I bought (in a bag) from HD, and every psbulb turned like yours, also, overnight and that was definitely rot. I still don't know what happened but suspect, water got trapped somehow. I had the plant about 3 months when this happened so whatever I did wrong, is still a mystery but I suspect it was something I mishandled. Is that tree fern you've got this in? Perhaps, a little too wet for this Catt? If the bulbs get mushy, I'd suspect it's rot from trapped water. If not, then you're probably dealing with some sort of bacterial attack.

Please post updates on the disposition of this. Fingers crossed for you!

Thanks Sandy for your views. The browning is not soft, still firm. And yes, it is tree fern and redwood chips that I use on all my cats and oncs. I have a fairly large (180) collection and been using ever since I started growing orchids and never had a problem with the potting media. I think it's bacterial and should cut out ASAP, treat to see if I can save.
It did bloom this past year and has a new growth and one I like. Thanks again.
