Yes, spray soak drench...whatever you want....just make sure you get the liquid into all the little knooks and crannies of the plant.

IF you have a big problem and you realy want to keep the plants get enstar . Costly but will get rid of the little jerk. Enstar can be use with a systemic and it works well as a preventitive.

I use the Bayer Advanced for scale and also GardenSafe...heavy dosing, once a week (sometimes, more) for at least 3 weeks. I also add antibacterial dishsoap to the watering then, flush.

I've also used neem oil with success and have also seen a lot of damage, overall to Phals treated with the neem....my Phals suffered, big time. Wouldn't recommend neem on Phals but on everything else, seems to work.

Enstar is way too expensive, especially for small collection or beginner. Other methods work well as mentioned above. ie. alcohol/409 or Bayer advanced. Have used both with good results. Object is to nip in the bud right away before it spreads to all the other orchids. Close daily or weekly inspection while watering is a key to catch before it spreads. Good luck.

I have been fortunate enough never to have experience scale on my small collection of orchids. I did, however have scale on one of my Staghorn ferns. I came across this remedy for the annihilation of them. Take 2 or three cloves of garlic and inser them close to the base of the plant. I did this and never saw another one again. I did remove the ones I dscovered initially with Q-tips and a dental pick. Maybe it would work on orchids.

Use Orchid Pro by TurfPro USA. You can get it at Turf Pro USA - Home

I was so frustrated with scale, I had tried "everything", well, I finally took a friends advice and used Orchid Pro, and it was amazing. I have never had even the slightest scale since I have been using it, and my plants are all healthier and happier.

Default general scale questions

This is a fascinating thread. Such great suggestions that I will have to try. I have been using Botaniwipes (have neem oil in them) and they haven't affected my phals, yet....
I have constantly battled them in my little greenhouse, since it was built. When it's a smaller infestation, I have usually wiped them off by hand or with one of the wipes. When I have, sometimes they come off whole, are they still viable in this state? Frequently, a little whitish fluff will be revealed on the leaf where the scale had resided. Is this an egg case/nest?? I wipe that residue off, but I was just curious. I think I might resort to the 409/alcohol as spring nears. I have a large swiss cheese plant that I discovered was coated in the little evil suckers. If that doesn't do the trick, I am trying the Bayer.
Thanks for all the great info!
