Default Ants – unsolicited advice

I have never had ants in my greenhouse (at least not yet), but some of the members of the Southern Arizona Orchid Society (in Tucson) have complained from time to time about problems with them. I noticed a recent post here where it seems that they have mostly been a “neutral” issue, no benefit, no damage . . . but, if anyone does have a problem with them . . .

I have used this product in my yard. From time to time we have gotten nests of those tiny biting ants, and they seem to appear and multiply quickly. I just push in one of these little “mushrooms” near the nest, and within a couple of days they are GONE. They don’t reappear soon either. These really work for me, easy to use and they are not messy. After the ants are gone, I just pick up the little "mushroom" and put it back in the package. I have a package of 5 that I've been using for a couple of years now. That's probably a "lifetime supply" for me. I don’t remember exactly where I got them, but it was either Home Depot or Ace Hardware.

I would guess they might not be available outside the US (maybe a similar product?), but to anyone in the US I really recommend them. Active ingredients listed are: Avermegin B1 = .05% . . . “other” = 99.95%. Not sure that’s helpful at all!
