I agree with Jerry about your Tolumnia. They are famous for re-blooming on nodes located lower on the stem. You could be lucky enough to get a secondary spike from the node if the rats or squirrels don't get it first. Good luck to you.

I don't think you'll be able to win a war against rodents. . .I wouldn't even try it.

But I would sure make it hardest for them to choose to eat your outdoor orchids in that great orchid hotel!!

Try to block their runways and make it easier for them to go the long way around, away from your orchids.

Can you add some green painted hardware cloth or something that doesn't have a big negative visual impact to keep them from climbing up or in? Or blocking the path in? Maybe add a roof of hardware cloth so they can't drop down or hang down to nibble and destroy?

I also like the idea of spraying a bit of something bad tasting on the orchids. . .if you can find something that won't hurt the orchids at all. They might get discouraged and after one taste test, move on?

Keep in mind that we humans are at least, theoretically, supposed to be SMARTER than rats and should be able to outsmart them. . .eventually. lol
