Press the links for pictures. These picturesall show different phals. The leaf that is very green has begun to curl - I'm not sure if the picture shows that?

By the way can anyone tell me why the IMG function won't show my pictures - just the links to the pictures.

You need to copy/paste these links into the popup that is provided after selecting the icon for inserting pictures. At this point you can still get the pictures to come up by editing/adding the following to each link - put at the end with no spaces. Then we'll see the pics instead of the links!

How much sun to these plants get? Any DIRECT? Brown spots on phal leaves usually mean sunburn - especially if/when they may be damp - it works like a magnifying glass to intensify the heat of the sun's rays.

I have had them outside for the summer the place, it thought the place didn't have any direct sunlight but they might have gotten some rays after all.

About the pics.. I have done exactly what you describe but still it won't work.

Okay - I'll try and see if I can get the first one to come!?

Here goes?!
Yep! You ARE RIGHT! Didn't work for me either. One of two possibilities - either a bug on the forum OR maybe some issue between the particular site you use and the forum causing it not to work?
You might try another free upload site such as photobucket and see if that works for you - I've been successfully using it recently.
The good thing is that you are doing everything right!

My first thoughts are sunburn. My second is too much water sitting on the leaves come nighttime. If neither applies, I would next think some type of virus.

I don't think it's a virus. The purplish color under the leaves and spotting under the new leaf is something I've seen on some phals. Seems to be natural. I noticed on one of mie that the spots fade a bit as the leaf ages. For the rest, it looks like the light brown marks could be due to sunburn and the black spot some sort of infection.

My phals have the purple-ish color under the leaves, no virus there. I would guess sunburn as well.

the spotting on the last picture though... clueless

Hey all! I am new to this forum as well as new to orchid growing. I think I am in a similar situation, I had my phal outside and I think it got too much sun. It looks like it has a moderate sunburn. So what should I do now? I have brought it back inside and out of direct sunlight. Will fertilizers or other nutrients help or make it worse? Also, can anyone recommend what fertilizer I should use for a phalaenopsis?

Hi Liz,
First of all "Welcome!"
Secondly, it's hard to comment on exact advice unless you post pictures of the damage. Yes, chances are you burned the phal as it tends to want very indirect light.
Without a look at the damage, though, I can't say what to do next. No, fertilizer won't fix a sunburn. Fertilizer should be used, of course, but not as a sunburn fix-it.
You can find orchid fertilizer (orchid food) at most box stores. They will work just fine. It's best to use "weakly weekly."
