I rotted my paph roots
Default I rotted my paph roots

I recently let a couple of fans in my greenhouse die, and waited too long to replace them. In the meantime, I am afraid that I allowed several of my paph's roots to rot. They are all in semi-hydro.
I pulled one out of the pot and it has no roots left.
Should I use the sphag n bag technique?
I have thiomyl, and I was thinking of drenching them all with it, and then following up with a dose of KLN.
Any thoughts would be appreciated.

There is an article in the most recent Orchid Digest about growing roots on rootless Paphs.

I don't use the bag method as I forget to air it out, but others have good luck with it by laying the moss away from the plant not in contact with it and adding vent holes in the bag for air . Gin

I'm in the same boat. Somehow I had the roots on my paph delenatii rot completely. I'm not doing the S/H method of growing, though.
It came this past April in a 2" pot but I was seeing signs of slight growth...then this happened.
I didn't know what to do, so I sprayed KLN on the base of the plant, and repotted it into sphag moss and will say a prayer and do a little jig....hope for the best.
I feel like the blame is on the company that shipped it to me. It didn't have much of a root system to begin with. I didn't know what to expect for this paph and it being so small, so didn't complain. Perhaps it was doomed to begin with. I don't know.

I've successfully rerooted two maudae type paphs with ZERO (honest!) roots by placing what was left of them in a 1 3/4" plastic pot of coir/perlite/charcoal mix that I use for my phals. In about 6-8 months (it does take some time) both plants had grown roots that circled the entire circumference of the pot - about a fourth to half inch down from the surface. Just put them on a windowsill facing NW on a bed of pebbles and watered weekly - no special treatment. Good luck!

You can try the spag n' bag method, or use a cup of water, place this on one side and the paphs on the other. Paper towels will work well also. I wouldn't seal up the bag completely, leave a small space open.
Twice daily take a Q-tip drenched with peroxcide to the bases of the plants.
Worked well for me, give it a week or 2.
Keep your paphs warm this will help to encourage root growth faster.

I rotted the roots off of a paph that I inherited. I took it to a knowledgeable friend who snapped the root (yes, just one) off above the rot, sprinkled liberally with cinnamon, and plopped it into a small pot with a bark/perlite/sphagnum mixture that would drain pretty well. This occurred a few weeks ago, so I don't know what the end result will be. It's still alive...
