roaches?! now thatz a first... well in general, i repot everything i get before i bring them indoors--in your case, it'll saves you the trouble of trying to catch these things once they get inside... assuming u're 100% sure the roaches are from the orchids...

With the humidity here and being so close to the water, I sometimes get waterbugs here...EWWWWWWWW!!!!!!!!

First...KILL THEM ALL!!!!

Okay, I'm better now

When we do see one, we make sure he or she doesn't get away...the road ends here and there will be no reproducing if I can help it!

I keep those roach traps out in the orchid room, they make them for large critters and seem to be taking care of things.

I only see an occasional one around...and right after I scream and jump back, I grab a shoe and
SQUISH him like the bug he is!!!

Living in Florida means dealing with bugs...I assume it would be the same in Texas

I get mine at Walmart and I've seen them at Publix. The ones for regular roaches are available anywhere, the large ones are not carried by everybody.

I use traps similar to those Sue mentioned, but haven't yet had to move them near the orchids. Living in Georgia, the occasional roach just happens. Of course, before coming here I had no idea a roach could be SO BIG!!!

We have quite a few Oak trees aka roach hotels . I use the Home Defense spray around the sill in the greenhouse and across the door threshold . If one gets in the first place they go are the pots nice and dark and damp . The Home Defense leaves a residue that lasts quite awhile , There are others with different names that work and are for use in the house . Gin

I lived in Florida for 6 months for an internship and had them in my apartment, which is pretty much inevitable in Florida. I put boric acid around the baseboards (you can get it at a home depot type store); I also kept my lights on and my thermostat down really low since I have a huge insect phobia and roaches really do not like light and cold temperatures, however, they love water and damp, dark places. My method seemed to work, and I only saw 6 the whole 6 months I was there. I heard horror stories from some of the other people who did not take such precautions.
