What in the world is growing w/ my chid!? Male
Default What in the world is growing w/ my chid!?

Hi all. I went outside today and found something growing with my orchid.

I guess it's a type of mold. But I don't know how it grew. I recently installed a fan to give them air circulation:

They never had aircirculation and now that I give it to them they grow mold!? I water them every four days because it's so hot here in South Florida... I figure that gives them time to dry out enough.

Next watering I'll use fungicide but I'm a little baffled.

Do you guys think maybe I watered to often or maybe that mold likes air circulation?

I would throw that piece of bark away. I don't think it's harmful to your plant though. Usually, mold will only attack dead tissue so your plant should be fine. Don't let water sit on your plant though. I had the same situation with my plant when I decided to put them in S/H in the middle of winter (I know.... bad timing) Anyway, a few days later, snow mold covered the roots and the clay pellets so I freak out and turned the fan on 24/7. No damage was done, my plant was safe and sound. Good luck on yours.

It looks like a mushroom. They grow when it's humid out.

You only water every 4 days? I've been watering every day. It has been very hot, and I figure that the tropics rain every day, at least where my particular orchids are from.
