I was woundering if there were any thing you could give your plant to prevent viruses or help with them if you have them.

Every orchid has virus germs, when plant become week, the virus become strong and than you cant do any thing, except destroy the plant, proper feeding with control watering will make plant healthy, you can give B1(B complex) 1 gram per liter once a month to strengthen the defense system of the plant

I was wondering about the virus because I had a scale out break this year and wanted to know if the damage was from scale or virus.

I do not know which thing caused the damage you have, but I think you can prevent these things from happening with regular maintenance. I started treated with a pesticide every few weeks but that may not be necessary to be done as often if you grow indoors. Also a systematic fungicide, viruscide, etc. can be used to prevent outbreaks. I started using Physan 20 after so many people recommended it on this board. It seems to be helping.

Did you actually see scale? Scale usually prefers hard leafed genera. Were the critters on the top or bottom of leaf? This looks very much like mite damage, but one needs a microscope to confirm their presence.

Looks like insect damage probably mites , if you run a damp tissue over the under side of a leaf and it comes back with orangie streaks that means mites . Scale also does a number on leaves does not look like virus . Gin

I have more scale problems with my soft-leaf orchids (palm-type leaves) than I do with my Cattleyas, and other hard-leaf plants.
