Do you use anything to treat for fungus/infections, etc.? The last two pictured look like some sort of fungus/virus to me. I would try Physan 20 and treat the plants with it monthly or so to keep those things at bay. THe other ones look like something got to them to split the leaves like that. I am not sure what woudl do that though. Hopefully others will chime in shortly.

Nyassa are you referring to the discoloration in the leaf of the first 2 pics or the little cut/split. Either way I don't know enough about phals to help but figured you might want to clarify to get better help. Good luck.

Hi. I had something similar going on with one of my Phal leaves a few months ago. The dark spotting was showing up only on one bottom leaf and was more contained in that it was just on one area of the leaf. I unpotted it, checked the roots (looked good) then, cut the spot off the leaf, bathed it in some Physan and Superthrive, repotted and treated the cut with hydrogen peroxide and cinnamon. All looked good for about a week and then, the spot appeared again seemingly overnight (assume now that I didn't cut far enough into the tissue of the leaf). I didn't want to stress it out anymore so decided to pour hydrogen peroxide down the crown, cut further into the leaf and again, treated with peroxide and cinnamon. That was 3 months ago and it's been growing a new leaf now....all is well.

I would suggest preventive measures by cutting the leaf off this Phal. There's really no way of knowing (without testing) if it's fungal or viral and either one can possibly be eradicated by removing the leaf, hoping to prevent it from spreading.

Also, in hot, humid growing conditions, especially in the summertime here, in Fla., I treat all the orchids with Bayer 3 in 1 Systemic regularly, as well as a capful (per gallon) of Physan in the watering. It helps tremendously.

Good luck!!!

Hi Nyassa
The only Masdie I have has that too. Guess I better find some Physan 20. I have kept cutting it off and it always returns. Guess it is good I have not given in to the urge to buy more......yet.

What do you mean with "can you use"?
I don't have hydrogen peroxide.
I use rainwater to pour on my plant.

One thing I strongly disagree with in some of these posts. If your plant is virused it is unlikely that it can be cured. The only thing you can do with a virused plant is to isolate it from you other plants so that the virus doesnt spread or discard it. Plants dont have imune systems like animals do.
