Default My phal went under the knife!!!!

I became a surgeon today, I noticed about a week ago that the tip of one of my phals turned brown-black and mushy, so I sprinkled it with cinnamon and this morning it seemed to me that the spot had grown so I took a sterilized blade and cut the affected part and sealed with cinnamon as well.

question #1 - what could've caused it?
question #2 - did I do the right thing by cutting it?

thank you guys for taking a look and as always feedback is extremely appreciated

I can't tell in the last picture...did you cut away a little of the healthy tissue along with the rot?

yes I did Susanne

I figured that if I left a little rot it would keep getting bigger....

Looks like a good job Priz.
Rot is usually = to standing water with or without sun. Any possibility this could have happened?
Other than that I can't think of anything that might have caused it.

Thank you guys for your replies.

Although is possible I truly don't recall water sitting on the leaves, I am very careful with that, I was more preocupied for it to be viral/fungal

I hope it recovers fine, this phally is been through a lot, root rot, rejected s/h, root rot again, and now is dormant, no growth of any kind but this leaf... and the tip rotting

anyway I'll keep you posted, and I'd appreciate any advise on boosting the root growth other than KLN (tried already )

Thank you!!!!!
