Default Virused phalaenopsis

This Phalaenopsis mariae has had an odd marking that looks like a depressed ring on one leaf for awhile. Recently I noticed it looking stressed and saw the same markings on other leaves. It tests negative for ORSV and CymMV with an Agdia kit. Looking at pictures online it looks like Phalaenopsis with Tospoviruses (Hark Orchideen and AOS have pictures).

This plant did bloom, but it has never thrived in the 18 months since I’ve had it. I find it mildly vindicating that it is not just a culture problem, and there is a chance I’ll someday succeed with this species. This is the second Mariae from the same vendor that has failed to grow. Anyone know where to get a clean, vigorous Phalaenopsis mariae?

It’s also interesting to see visual evidence of a virus, but it underscores how limited we are in controlling viruses in our collections.

could be another virus as you mention. I have a phal that I am convinced probably has orchid fleck virus, and to my knowledge no clear testing is available at this time. its sitting alone on a windowsill right now, kind of interested to see how it blooms out before I toss it.
