Phalaenopsis dying
Default Phalaenopsis dying

Hello everyone, first time here for me.
I've been growing Phalaenopsis for years , but in the last year I lost two of them in the same way. Now , it's starting again with another , leaves turn yellow as the main stem becomes brown and dry from the bottom to the top . In the end the leaves drop down and the plant dies.
I don't know what the problem is, it never happened the years before.
I water them from the top about once a week ( it depends on the season ) , I fertilize once a month ( 20-20-20 ) .
Does anyone have an idea ? I'd like to save this one, but more importantly I wouldn't lose more of them.

Thank you

That’s a lot of stem sticking out of the pot. When was it repotted last? Your medium could be broken down with subsequent root loss.

The roots in the pot are probably dead. The roots in the air probably aren't getting enough water. The plant may be getting too much light.

Read some of this thread, on growing Phalaenopsis: The Phal abuse ends here.

It’s normal for phals to lose the lower leaves, slowly, over time. New roots will typically come out right under/around the lowest leaf. You want those new roots to be just under or just above the surface of the medium. That’s why it’s important to repot about once a year. In situations like yours, repotting gives you the opportunity to nestle the plant down deeper into the pot.
