Alcohol won't hurt anything - I even use it on Phalaenopsis flowers to zap mealy bugs. Unlike water it evaporates in minutes. Plain old 70% isopropyl alcohol, I just replace the cap with a suitable-length sprayer.

Can I use the 99% that I have. Would I have to dilute it? Sorry for all the questions. It's just that I have never used alcohol on plants before. So I'm guessing that I would just spray it all over the plant.

99%? That's pretty stiff. Lab alcohol? (In the US I don't think one can even buy it that strong) I would suggest diluting it to 70%. I use the 70% isopropyl (rubbing alcohol) that I get from the drugstore.
It works wonders on mealybugs - dissolves the white waxy coating. Put a bit on a cotton swab, touch it to the fuzzy mealybug, and you get this "naked" little brown bug that is quite vulnerable. Scale is, of course, a different story - not nearly as easy to kill.

Here in Canada we can purchase 99% isopropyl alcohol in the drugstore. I will definitely dilute it or purchase some 70%. Again, thank you so much.

Water is cheaper than buying a different product in packaging... just dilute a bit, put in spray bottle, and have at it. You don't have to be exact... just "take the edge off". |

Unless you see something that indicates a brewing problem, I'd give it a bath about once a week for 3 weeks or so. You'll never kill all in one go but you reduce the population. In a week, the next generation (hopefully smaller) will hatch so you want to nail them. Then the week after, you will have reduced the population some more. This approach is for any pest treatment - the alcohol is mild and non-toxic but if you needed to go for heavier guns, the same thought process is involved. One is never done.
