One leaf tuning yellow on a hybrid cymbidium
Default One leaf tuning yellow on a hybrid cymbidium

Hi!

I've had this hybrid cymbidium for a few weeks and noticed that two of its leaves are turning yellow as you can see in the attached picture. The other leaves are fine for now.

Is this something I should be worrying about? What could be the causes?

Thank you very much for your help!

It is normal for Cyms to lose old leaves. As long as leafless "back bulbs" are firm, they're still helping the plant. That very yellow one looks like it was on its way out for awhile... note that it was trimmed (trimming yellow or brown leaf tips makes it more attractive, leaves tend to die from the top...) Be sure that you keep it well-watered. Cyms hate to dry out. (Inadequate water will also cause leaf drop, a way of the plant protecting itself from "drought") And this is the time of year when new growth appears, so fertilize well too. I use a top dressing of slow-release fertilizer to supplement the regular (weak) liquid fertilizer.

Thanks, Roberta! I just think it doesn't look normal since both the growth look quite young and have no pseudobulb, and leaves shouldn't die at this young age. I hope you are right!

I think I'm doing pretty well with fertilizing and watering, but you could always do it better 😂
