Cattleya hybrid with spreading black leaf spot
Default Cattleya hybrid with spreading black leaf spot

Hello y’all, I’m kinda new to orchidboard. I’ve read threads before but I finally made an account to post about a problem with one of my plants.

The attached photo is from my cattleya hybrid(Cattleya bowringiana coerulea 'Willowpond' x Cattleya Leoloddiglossa coerulea 'Exotic Orchids'). It’s a seedling I’ve had for a bit over a year and I’m hoping it’ll bloom for me soon. Recently I left my plants for a week and when I came back the newest growth had this black spot. At first I thought it was sunburn but it’s had the same lighting for months and the leaf next to it is perfectly fine. Now the spot is getting bigger and the leaf feels kind of soft. I was hoping someone on here might have an idea of what’s wrong with this leaf. Thanks!

Welcome to the Orchid Board!

Cattleyas making new growth, especially seedlings, should not become completely dry for more than a day or so. Might that have happened?

Took me a while to get around to responding to this. Thanks for the advice. After a little while the leaf fell off which was slightly disappointing, but on the bright side whatever rot affected this leaf didn't spread to the rest of the plant.

Right now the plant is looking good and has grown plenty of roots since the new growth sprouted. The plant is healthy. Whatever kind of leaf rot it had doesn't seem to be a problem anymore.
