Default New Cymbidium - black dots on leaves and discoloration

Hi everyone,

I just got my first Cymbidium yesterday from the plant store, but once at home I noticed some of the leaves have small black dots on them. I also found some leaves with discoloration.

Might this be a fungus, or a virus even? Is there anything I can do about this?

Welcome Stellaris

Those are, probably, old leaves.
Regarding the dots, they can be lots of things. Can you pot a zoomed pic of them?
In the future, remember that Cymbs are notorious for having ugly leaves, especially if grown outdoors.

Thank you! I've attached some more zoomed in pictures of two of the affected leaves. The dots are kind of visible on both sides of the leaves, although they are more visible on the undersides.

Welcome to the Orchid Board!

Most Cymbidiums look like that most of the time. I don't think you need to worry.

I agree with ES.
Anyway, one more thing I will ask you to check. The spots...do they feel like like a bump to the touch?

Thank you so much to both of you for your time!

The dots don't feel like bumps whatsoever, I cannot actually feel any difference between where they are and the rest of the leaves.

I'm really glad to hear this is probably nothing, I really love the way the plant and flowers look!

It it felt like bumps could be scale or similar.
So, we all agree, it's just Cymb leaves ugliness.
Get used to it.
