Vanda leaf spots, what is ok and what is scary? Female
Default Vanda leaf spots, what is ok and what is scary?

I have many vanda orchids and have noticed a few have flecking or spots on the leaves. I have done some research and it is very difficult to tell if it is normal pigmentation from being in the sun or if it is a fungal infection or virus developing slowly.

There are many vandas that you buy that will have at least some speckling on the leaves or between the leaves and I was wondering if there is some way to know for sure what type of flecking is ok and which is infectious.

Thank you.

I attached some images of different types of spotting on the leaves of my vandas.

Im not sure if the third on is spider mite damage but its been there for months and has not spread, there are no visible mites and its only on the older leaves.

In the first photo, timed 4:44, there appears to be something cottony or fluffy on the upper surface of the leaf near your thumb. Could that be mealy bug or scale? The small spots don't look worrisome.

In the second photo, timed 4:45, it looks as though the hanging wire could have scraped the large black spot. The other spots look like old damage.

In the last photo the distribution of the lesions makes me wonder about sunburn or heat damage from artificial lights, or cold damage from being close to a window on a cold night.
