Dracula felix with brown leaf lesions, misshapen leaves, flower buds dying
Hello, can anyone help me figure out what is going on with my Dracula felix?
It had a case of what I thought was bacterial brown spot disease right after I brought it home last summer. I had to cut off many of the leaves and rinsed it with hydrogen peroxide a few times. It was doing great for a couple months and even started putting out flower buds and new leaves, then this happened very quickly. I’m not sure if this is more brown spot or some new problem. In addition to the brown lesions, some of the leaves are folded oddly and one of the new flower buds shriveled up.
If it helps, this orchid is separated from my other orchids in a cool room (currently 50-60 F but gets hot in the summer). It hangs from the blind on a small north-west facing window. Air circulation probably isn’t great currently but I open the window every few days when it’s warm enough. It gets tap water (very low mineral content here)plus 1/4 strength MSU once a week or when media is mostly dry, some ca+mg solution once a month, and gets a plain water soak once a month. I soak it in a separate container from other plants.
I grow only one Dracula, Dracula papillosa, so I cannot help you with your problem.
Orchid Board does have an expert, Cyann, and if you do not get someone else who grows this to help you, it might not hurt to send a private message to him. Here is the link to one of his posts:
