A motion detecting sprinkler works well for lots of other species, but I'm not certain how well it would work on opossum. On high strung critters like deer and squirrels, the sudden sound of the sprinkler has the critters moving before the water reaches them. Opossum are different. They're more...deliberate, shall we say? Yes, that definitely sounds nicer than "slow witted"...I could see them freezing at the sound, getting hit with the spray then realizing it's only water and carrying on with what they were doing.
