Slugs

I don't think that wire will help... the idea behind the copper "band" is that as the slug or snail crawl over it, it gets an electric shock. A wire would not have the surface area to deter a determined slug.

Bumping this as slugs for a lot of people are going to crop up.

Found one that ate part of a root tip of one of my Neos that has red root tips. Luckily it has plenty of other roots.

First time any of them have actually gotten on any of the plants. I pulled the bugger off, slammed him on the ground, treated the plants damaged root with some Cinnamon Leaf Oil + Isopropyl Alcohol mixture, squirted that mixture on several other plants as a precaution, squirted the rest on the slug and then covered it with an empty pot to bake in the warm weather we have today.

If I had a magnum and some snake shot, I would've shot the thing like the dog it is to send a message to the other slugs.

You can just pick up the slug and squish it between your fingers. Also works with caterpillars on tomatoes, peppers and cabbage crops.

Thanks for the thread, folks! I was looking for some info and found this thread.

My Cymbidium came into the house about a week back, after spending the summer under a holly tree. The pot had actually broken, so yesterday I soaked it before transplanting (am planning on 1-2 days before transplanting).

While pouring the water out, I saw something in the pot... turned out to be a slug (guessing banana), about 4-5" long. :PPP I think I drowned it, but I dumped it out in the backyard - no feet involved. (Recycling, baby. )

Whelp... now have an idea of what happens next.

The Cymbidium itself has had a hard row to hoe - it came from the "buy it now" table at a 2023 auction, and it turned out to have mealy bugs all down into the roots. It's still alive, and I can try - well, something; but we'll see what "something" means. .

Yikes, that's huge! Not a banana slug, they are bright yellow. But slugzilla!

absolutely....take a small cup half filled with a pils (or other cheap beer). a couple around works best. each cup will trap as many slugs as can fit. think 50 a night per cup...each night! so yeah, you gotta deal with a bunch of mushy, half-dead slugs each day, but it traps them like no other....

old school gardeners know what im talking about...this is one home remedy that actually works!

Yes! Slugs love beer.
In my organic gardening days, I used cat food or tuna cans and the cheapest beer you can find.
The next day you have a bunch of dead drunk slugs.
