Dendrobiums yellow and black leaf spotting
Default Dendrobiums yellow and black leaf spotting

Hello! I am new to this group and l am seeking some advice. I have been successfully growing phals in the house for years. I decided to branch out to dendrobiums. I ordered my first 10 plant collection. It arrived today with different types of spots on the leaves. The seller said "these were sprayed by the original grower and will not affect plant".

I do NOT want to infect my orchid collection.

Can you help identify the problem and whether or not these are worth saving. Should I trust the seller or throw them away? Any other advise is welcome. The pics show three different types of spots on several plants.

Thanks!

Welcome to the Orchid Board.

I would not accept plants like that. I would not buy from that vendor again. If the vendor won't refund your money, contact your credit card company right away for a refund.

Orchid Board has a Vendor Feedback forum. You can read there about good vendors.

Thank you so much. I will not be purchasing from this grower again as they did not offer refund or exchange

Can anyone identify the pathogen and perhaps offer treatment suggestions? I have several other plants in the same room and I am worried about contamination. Should I treat these plants or throw them away?

If you paid by credit card, file a complaint with the credit card company. You may be able to get a refund from your credit card, since you received defective merchandise. That may get the vendor's attention.

I would suggest, for now, keeping the plants away from the rest of your collection (in another room if possible) and observe them. If the spots don't get larger, the plants may be OK - that almost looks like they were sprayed with something that burned the leaves, to get big blotches like that. If new growth is clean, then that would a positive sign. But definitely isolate the plants for now.
