i have only had scale on a sugar apple tree and i believe it came with it as it was a young tree. i am pretty confident that the reason for this must be my beneficial insects

i know you are indoors is it a greenhouse or actually in your house? i would get some lacewings, some ladybugs and some mantis and let them loose....just my 'hippie' soloution

Safari has worked well for me.
It’s very important to treat all of your plants at the same time, even if you see no scale.
Both drench and spray everything. The scale can live on the roots.
If a plant is severely infested, remove the mix, pull off any dried sheaths and scrub the leaves and rhizome with a soft toothbrush and alcohol.
Drench the whole plant and roots with Safari and repot.
Insect growth regulators work, but you must repeat at least three times at regular intervals to catch the crawler stage, which is the most vulnerable.

I recall a really severe Boisduval scale infestation I dealt with years ago.

I ended up mixing Acephate (Orthene), imidacloprid (Merit) AND Enstar (kinoprene IGR)and doing the 3 treatment protocol.
